Pixie's World Rattery

Breeder Code of Ethics

At Pixie's World we strive to produce the sweetest, healthiest babies around. In our breeding program we pair rats together who carry good qualities, wonderful health, and amazing temperament in order to bring the best of those rats out in their litters. We never sacrifice one part of a rat to improve another part, we only breed for the whole rat and you will notice this in our pedigrees and in our lines through out the years. Unfortunately the world of rat breeding is a cruel one where most breeders out there think along the lines of "it's my way or the highway". I try my best to be understanding about this and try to be open minded about people having a different opinion than myself. In return I expect the same treatment. If someone is unable to handle that, I make my best effort to avoid them. I am not interested in anyone who is out to start trouble, nor am I interested in their rats. I will not tolerate flaming, rumors, or competition. I am here to improve the life and well being of the pet rat, to improve it's health and length and quality of life.

Outlined below is our breeder code of ethics which we have maintained and will continue to follow for years to come.

  • We will breed to improve the whole rat for the sake of the rat and will not get caught up in competition or debate.

  • We will only breed rats that maintain full and healthy pedigrees.

  • We will keep all cages sanitary at all times.

  • Each cage will be a sufficient size for the amount of rats that it holds.

  • Only bedding, which has proved to be safe and effective, will be used.

  • We will keep accurate records to the best of our ability pertaining to the health and pedigrees of all our rats and will provide this information to the general public and our adopters.

  • Each and every breeder will be cared for and loved as a pet.

  • No one female will be bred more than 3 times.

  • Males & females will not be bred before physical maturity and will only be bred after we have assessed them as healthy, well-tempered and well-typed rats.

  • No female will be bred after 18 months of age

  • No female will be bred for the first time after 12 months of age

  • We will not cull/kill for any reason

  • No rats will be placed that show signs of illness. Vet care will be given for all illnesses and treatment will be followed. Rats will only leave PWRR after they have been examined and proved to be healthy by our licensed veterinarian.

  • We are soley responsible for deciding who is qualified to own a pup or rat that we are seeking to place. We will not sell to pet stores or at auctions or swap meets, or to people who breed feeder rats or feed live food.

  • When placing rats we will maintain an adoption agreement that will be signed by both parties and kept on record. Each adopter will be supplied with copies of this signed agreement for their records.
